RSV

If you have 3 week old preemies with RSV, I would suggest the following:

1. Ignore the pediatrician when he says the babies only have a cold.
2. Always ask the pediatrician to take a culture.
3. Take the babies to the hospital when you first start to suspect they have RSV.
4. Make your pediatrician give the babies synagis during their first pediatrician visit (this really only applies if you have preemies during the flu season).

If you follow those rules, you will hopefully have a shorter and less eventful stay in the hospital.

Christian in the ICU

I suppose even if you follow those rules, it doesn't mean the above picture can't happen to your baby. Christian ended up with severe RSV, while William had a milder version of it. They both came into the ER with low core body temperatures, and were treated for hypothermia along with RSV. Apparently, when your body is fighting off infection it will either increase in heat (a fever), or decrease in heat to protect the bodies major organs. If you walk into the ER with a low body temperature you will get more attention then if you walk in with fever. Shortly after we arrived, Christian managed to get the attention of the entire ER staff by not breathing. It was the scariest moment of my life. I am so grateful we were in a hospital when that happened and not at home or in the car. Every mother should know this, in case you are at home or in the car.

On a positive note, William is home from the hospital and almost completely over it. We are hoping that Christian will be home soon. We are also so thankful for all the prayers and fasting from our friends and our family.

They have been in every prayer in our home during the past week or so. I can't even imagine what you are going through. We will continue to pray for your family and specifically Christian. We miss you!

Oh little Christian! What an insane amount of tubes and wires. You are definitely in our thoughts and prayers. (And on the temple prayer roll as of Saturday:)

These poor sweet boys. I've been very worried about them and ask Merle for an update every time I see him. I'm glad William is home and Christian will be home shortly! What a scary, stressful time. I'm glad your mom was still there to help! What a blessing.

Although Winston wasn't a preemie, I was very worried about RSV and didn't take him to church for the first 4 weeks, and then once I did, I carried him the sling the whole time so no one could touch them.
